- Students' actions in a classroom were led by the teacher.
- The core of instruction was the lesson, offered by a teacher to introduce content.
- Teachers relied on their students' compliance, following the teacher's plan and direction.
Teacher-dependent instruction failed us during the pandemic. Teachers, students, and parents were stressed. Now, educators are talking about learning losses, the need to prioritize SEL, and the need to address greater equity gaps.

What if you could design learning environments that could withstand obstacles, build students' academic resilience, and allow students to learn anytime, anywhere?

- Engage students through PBL so that they are continually, intrinsically motivated to learn
- Ensure the core of instruction becomes student curiosity and drive
- Guide students with achievable expectations so they can self-assess and determine their learning path.
- Provide students with a variety of choices for learning so that all students have access to rigorous opportunities to learn.
- Shift teachers' focus from delivering whole-class lessons to facilitating instruction through:
- Discussion groups
- Small-group instruction
- Process facilitation
- Academic facilitation
Ultimately, through structures and strategies inherent in student-dependent instruction, build academic resilience so that students have what it takes to overcome obstacles and continue learning.
